Background

PIC evaluated the process and method of purchasing commercial quality laboratory clothing and uniforms for a leading medical/pharmaceutical company. IPC determined that the existing process of “purchasing, cleaning/repairing, and disposing” of lab clothing for employees was costly, resource intensive, and susceptible to supply chain risks and off-shore delivery challenges. IPC conducted an assessment of the processes, controls, and costs. IPC recommended moving from a ‘purchase model’ to a ‘rental model’. This change in both suppliers and process reduced uniform cost by over 70%,eliminated supply chain risk, and reduced administrative staff responsibilities. Moreover, employee satisfaction was increased due to the improvement of uniform cleanliness, quality, and available inventory.
